Autumn Weekend

We have enjoyed a lovely weekend spent with friends, celebrating bonfire night and the start of the cooler weather. On Saturday we hosted a small party with some local friends and my parents, with a bonfire and a few fireworks for the children. Warm apple juice, homemade soup, hotdogs, popcorn, marshmallows on the fire - it was a yummy treat! A smaller group remained until later in the evening, and we enjoyed making even more noise with the musical instruments.

Today we went for a little drive to meet some friends from a local Steiner group. We have only met a few times, but they are such a warm and inspirational family. I could learn a lot from their parenting style, but one thing stands out: confidence. They are so happy with the way they choose to do things, and freely follow their instincts. I can be quite self critical, often falling short of my own ideals, and have had a real crisis of confidence since R was born. I still haven't bounced back, and feel as if I have lost my way. It was nourishing to spend time with such a happy family, and I hope some of their confidence has rubbed off on me.
